Bye Bye Angels

So messing around with my DVR and I noticed that this week's Charlie's Angels did not record.  So I went into my settings and saw that no more episodes were scheduled to be recorded.  Did the Angels get cancelled?  After confirmation with several sites, yes they were.  In fact 5 of the new shows of the 2011/2012 season have been dropped including:

Free Agents (NBC)
HBR (CW)
How To Be A Gentleman (CBS)
The Playboy Club (NBC)

and of course Charlie's Angels on ABC.

Bummer.  And I really liked that show, too.  Oh well.

Good luck to the other shows.

Been a While

Hey folks,  I apologize for the big gap between blogs in school, but if you have not guessed it already, It has been an very busy semester and I am almost to the half way point.  I am taking four, I repeat four classes this semester.  They are Concepts of Physical Activity (Fitness/Health class),  Functional Approach of College Algebra, Elementary Spanish and Intro to Teaching Profession.  Can you guess which of these classes are the most demanding?  Go ahead and guess.
I will definitely say that all of the classes do require a lot of your time with homework, exams, labs, class observations and workouts.  I am doing a lot to keep up with the classes, but in order to do this I had to sacrifice some things.  My DVR has been filling up a some because TV watching is near to nothing.   I don't do as much with my wife, family and friends as I use to and even my sleep is starting to be effected (I need to sleep now to be rested for my 6pm class tonight).  I will add that working overnights on a major store remodel isn't helping much although it does allow me to his my labs and exams a little easier.

I'm sticking to it and working as hard as I can.  It is safe to say I will not achieve a 4.0 this semester.  Already had some hiccups with a couple of the classes, but made adjustments to make them easier for me.  It's getting better.

Well, let me jump off of here and get some sleep.  Again, feel free to guess which of my classes for this semester is the most demanding.  I'm sure you will not get it on the first try.

Adventures in Skoolin': Fall In!

Well! A new school year has started. I am going to take it a step (or maybe 2 steps) further and will take 4 classes this fall semester (2 on campus and 2 online) totalling 11 credits. As like the previous semesters, I am very nervous be cause I will be taking more in and working a remodel overnight for 6 weeks (whew!).

I remembered I never reported on my summer classes. In a nutshell, I aced both classes. Not too much of a surprise for the Computer Apps class, but I was shocked with the Music Lit class. I'll take what I can get, thank you.

This semester will be challenging, but my friends and my wife have faith I will do well. And so I will, too.

Music Review: Evade Kanye's Zone

So, I was checking out the new CD by Jay-Z and Kanye West called Watch The Throne.  The long awaited album was the talk of the nation for months even tough I never heard of it until a week ago.  Being a huge fan of Jay-Z I felt it would be worthy of my library.  Boy was I wrong.  I haven't been this disappointed in an album since Erykah Badu's Amerykah Part 1 in 2007.

I just can't figure what they were thinking.  There maybe only one track I like and I mean maybe.  Some of you folks may love this release and will blast it forever in your vehicles, but I think it will never enter my player again.  I gave this CD 3 chances.  I couldn't even go complete through the it the last 2 times.

Jay-Z and Kanye, if you guys decide to do a full album collaboration again please take longer to think it over before hitting the studio.  I'm still a fan of you two, but not of this release.  Stay out of your Zone, Kanye.

One other thing, WHAT IS THE DEAL WITH THIS FELINE PICTURE?  Geez!

Brain Dead Donkey in the Middle of the Desert

So we decided to check out the Change-Up with Reynolds, Bateman, Mann and Wilde.  It was a very good and funny film.  Showing the usual world of a single man & a married man and how their lives can be effected when they switch.  Some would think Ryan Reynolds would have stolen the show, but it was actually Jason Bateman in my opinion.  The only issue I had with this flick was that it seemed like they half-assed the post-production.  Just thought there were some obvious errors.

All and all I felt this movie was good, but not as well as Horrible Bosses.  Check it out in theaters if you wish, but it may be more worthy to see later for rental.  Ok movie.

Grade: C+

Fonduing

So I went with some friends to check out the First Avenger last night.  It was very well done and entertaining.  I'll admit that having Chris Evans play 2 Marvel characters (The Human Torch was the other), but I feel he did a great job as the Captain.  Tommy Lee Jones stole the show in my opinion. He was very funny in a dry humor kind of way.  Hugo Weaving also did great as the Red Skull.  I never new that much about Captain America, but I learned a lot from just this movie.

I am very excited about the upcoming Avengers film in May 2012.  It should be great!  I also heard that there will be new Iron Man movie coming out which kind of confuses me, but oh well.

Check out Captain America in theaters!

Okay.  I am seriously geeking out.  Three networks are making remakes of cartoons I grew up on.  Three of these cartoons really caught my attention.

First The HUB, a new network, release two remakes, Transformers Prime and G. I. Joe Renegades.  This was followed up by NickToons releasing Voltron Force.  Now I checked out the series premiere of ThunderCats on Cartoon Network.  Pretty sweet.  I am pretty impress mainly because they are doing a great job with each series.  I am glad.

Check them out.

BSP

So, I attended this high school called Washington in Milwaukee and I had this friend named Matt.  After high school (not sure much after), he created a comedy group with Aaron Yonda called Blame Society (I hope I'm telling this right).  You should remember these dudes as they created Chad Vader, which was rated top ten internet video series in.........I can't remember the year.  Since then they have create other series, like Beer and Board games and Ask An Expert.

Ask An Expert started with Hal Thompson and now has turned into a panel including, Dr. Moley, Baby Cookie (my favorite panelist), Thor (not sure about that one) and Ernesto, who I believe is either Matt or Aaron's Cat.  Here is a video featuring Ernesto:

I definitely enjoy you guys work.  Keep it up!

FWB

We decided to check out Friends with Benefits tonight and it was great.  Timberlake and Kunis was hilarious.  They had a pretty nice chemistry in the film, although I doubt they do another one together.  Jenna Elfman is also in the film and I thought the reference they made to her previous works were pretty funny.  The flash mob deal was a bit much, but kept the cheesiness of the Rom Com.  Harrelson and Clarkson was especially funny in their own twisted ways.

This film is alright to check out, but don't have to rush to the theater to see it.

I give it a B.

MF Jones

We just checked out Horrible Bosses and man it was hilarious.  Starring Jason Bateman (Arrested Development), Charlie Day (It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia) and Jason Sudekis (Saturday Night Live) these guys made this movie almost more funny than Hangover and Bridesmaids.

The actual horrible bosses were played by Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston & Colin Ferrell and my favorite was Aniston.  I feel Sudekis definitely ran this movie with his asshole like ways as a comedian.  The cameos by Jamie Foxx and Ron White were also great.

This definitely a great film to check out in theaters or later.

New Book: Do you know White People?

Well I admit I don't read hardly any books willingly.  I mostly read books issued to me by classes and work, but my wife gets me a new book called, Stuff White People Like: The Definitive Guide to the Unique Taste of Millions.  I found it very interesting, but then shortly after she gave it to me she hijacks it and start reading it to her mom over the phone.

I guess I will read it later once she eventually puts it down.  It seems like an interesting read for a short book.  I make post some of the stuff from the book.

The Cool Weapons

So went out to check out Transformers 3 in IMAX 3D.  May I start in saying that Cinemark 17 & IMAX in North Dallas, TX is very boo now?  It is too cramped and hot.  I am done with that location.  The staff is none to nice either.  I am ready to try AMC's IMAX screens.  Also, wanting to check out Colleyville Cinema + Grille.

Ok.  Back on track.  Transformers: Dark of the Moon was very well done.  It was a bit too long, but the action and storyline was great.  It was cool to hear Leonard Nimoy (Star Trek) as Sentinal Prime (A Transformer I never heard of until yesterday).  They also broaden their cast some including all-stars like John Malkovich (Red), Ken Jeong (The Hangover - he's still doing gangsta boy), Patrick Dempsey (Grey's Anatomy) and Frances McDormand (Fargo).  Nice work Bay and Spielberg.

As for the Transformers themselves, the debut of Laserbeak was awesome.  Didn't know he was a chameleon, but was very effective as an assassin.  Also the debut of Shockwave and his "little" pet was pretty awesome (As Lennox points out, "Why do they have the cool weapons?").  Kind of wish Ravage would have came back.  :-(

Even though Hugo Weaving did a great job as Megatron, I really wish Frank Welker (the original voice) would have kept doing it.  Oh well, Welker was busy enough voicing both Soundwave and Shockwave.  Also, why could they use the autotune voice for Soundwave?  That was one of the best parts of Transformers.

Overall the movie was great.  *SPOILER ALERT* Very sad to see 5 of the major Decepticons fall, but I guess the series has to end somehow.  Or did it?

Go check it out!  I give this an A.  Again, nice work Bay and Spielberg.

Dark Anime

So while taking a break from studying, I just checked out a new anime just released on Adult Swim called,  "Duarara!!".  I'm trying to take it in and it may take a while.  Kind of like Death Note, which turned out to be really good.

From he same production company who brought Fullmetal Alchemist and Rurouni Kenshin, Amniplex brings a dark anime that takes place in Modern Tokyo (or Kyoto).  Looks like it follow the life of some kids, a Russian sushi worker, some bad new people and a headless motorcyclist.

It seems a bid fascinating and I will continue to check it out.  More later.

Until then...............

Final stretch.......For Summer '11

Well, it's the 4th of July and I am up in the middle of the night.  Slept from 10 pm to 3am (5 hours).   Going to need more in order to make the events for later today.  When I woke up pretty much one thing popped in my head:  Homework!  I never thought I would be like this with my classes and I'm just going for an Associate's now.  I can only imagine what my Bachelor's and hopefully Master's will be like.  My wife says that if I do two classes like this in a 6 week span and do very well, then a normal semester with up to 4 classes should be cake.  Hmmmmmm........we shall see.

Anyways, I will get to work after I get some grub.  Getting very hungry.  I have 4 assignments, a discussion board, and a final exam to finish by the 7th for my computer class.  And a couple of short essays for my Music Lit class.

Did I say before that my instructors are very cool before?  I never seen folks flex themselves so much to help you get the best grade possible.

Well, better hop to it.

Early on a Sunday morning

So I slept for 5.5 hours and my body decided to wake up.  So since it did that I decided to get jump on my school work.  I'm doing very well in my Computer Apps class and learning a lot in a 6 week span.  As for this Music Lit course, It am just about lost.  I just don't get this instructor's format.  I'm trying to keep up, but it's kind of rough.  The funny thing is that it is actually less work that the computer class.  Pretty confusing.

I'm going to keep at it, but I don't think I will achieve that great of a grade.  As long as I pass is my theory on this one.  Late last week my wife asked if I could take a break from school work and I thought it was odd given she was the main one pushing to do this, but she was right.  Other than work and sleep, this is the only other thing I do most of the time.  So much, I neglect the housework some days.  Still trying to balance this out.

Only 2 weeks left for this semester.  Kind of wished I picked up another class, thinking on that.

Mint

Just checked out Super 8.  I will admit I was not initially interested in this movie.  Had a tough time figuring out what it could be about.  Given that the movie was written and directed by J.J. Abrams and Spielberg was involved, it could be about anything. The only thing that got me wanting to see this film was because of J.J.  I have been a fan of his work since Alias.  I watched and love the shows Lost & Fringe and I even enjoyed Undercovers until NBC decided to drop it.

The film was pretty good.  I would say it was intense and comical (The one blond kid was especially funny).  People say it was like Goonies.  I failed to see that comparison.  Even though the film kept my attention during my zoned out state, the main thing that kept going through my mind was, "What does the title have to do with what's going on?"  That was answered later on.

Pretty much I would say this film was ok.  It was good that didn't over hype it.  That would probably make the movie a bit disappointing.  The soundtrack was pretty cool though.

I give it a B-/C+.  Typical film working with Spielberg.

Burn Notice and Wipeout Returns!

So the summer is here and it is time for the networks to release their previous summer hits and try some new shows.  With my limited schedule I will only take in 3 season premieres and 3 series premieres.  The new seasons include Louie, Wipeout and my favorite show, Burn Notice.

Louie fell last summer from my DVR due to limited time (as usual), but I decided to give it a second chance.  Now missed a season and usually I would not try the show again, but I'll try.  No promises.

Wipeout also returns after playing half of the 2010-2011 season with Winter and Spring versions, which in my opinion was very enteraining.  Hope they continue it.  Now the main summer show is back and looks even more challenging than before.

As for my new #1 show on my favorite network, Burn Notice returns and I'm sure with great new missions/jobs.  This show will never be dropped from my DVR.

New series include Expedition Impossible from the makers of Wipeout.  The host, on an interview, says this show is more extreme than The Amazing Race.  We shall see.

USA's new show Suits also starts this week.  It seems like it will be an interesting show as it features a kid who is a prodigy and says he is able to do court cases with out a degree.

The final series is Wilfred on FX.  This show stars Elijah Wood (Lord Of The Rings Trilogy) as a guy who sometimes watches a dog who happens to be a guy in a dog suit or at least that's how I take it so far.  It seems disturbing, yet intriguing.  I'm not sure how I'll feel about this show, but I'll give it a try.

I don't for see holding on to all these shows, but it will be fun to see how they go.

Surprise, surprise!

Compter Lab and Bulletin Board assignments are complete, but now our instructor had realized that she didn't now open up 2 exams to us.  Now we have those to complete by Saturday night.  Man, this is going to be a busy weekend with those and the Music Lit assignments I need to complete.

Oh yeah!  And there is housework to be done.  I need to get a better system going here.

Oh well.  Got to get to it!

Summer Classes Chosen

Alright,  I have finally made my mind on what classes I will take this summer.  I will only take 2 classes for 6 weeks.  They are Microcomputer Applications, which is a course on learning features of Microsoft Windows 7 OS and Microsoft Office 2010 applications including Word, Excel, Access & Powerpoint.  The other class in Music Literature I which basically have you read on the history of music and listen to certain styles including, baroque, classical, medevil and 19th Century.  Both of these classes are online due to me working overnights during the same time and traveling on the last 2 weeks.

This will be a whole new major challenge for me, but after my success in Spring '11 I feel better about doing this.

Oh and I finally got my own notebook/laptop thanks to financial aid and my lady!  This will definately help with the online classes especially on the travel days.

Semester starts in a little over a week.

Texas Government Results

So the semester has ended and very eager to see how I do in this class.  This grade will help me determine my ability and focus towards my degree.  The results are in and I received an "A"!  Shock hits me hard.  Pretty unbelievable given this is an arena that my strengths don't lie much.  My wife says it could be in part because of my recent interest in politics.  It could be.  I won't say I am as deep in it as some other folks, but it am definately more interested than before.

So what did I get out of the class.  Well, I learned a lot about Texas Government in general.  I understood the legistlature a bit more.  They don't make much money in salary and pretty much the Lt. Governor could be viewed as more powerful than the the Governor himself.  I also attended my first City Council meeting in my current town.  It was a bit fascinating and enjoyable.  I would like to attend more, time permitting.

It was a good class and now I will more on to Summer Classes.  I may do 3 classes.  We'll see.

Until then...............

Birdaggedon

At least that's what my wife called it. So I'm up to take the dogs out and when I open the door 5 small birds scattered out from the wreath (not a Christmas Wreath), but they didn't scatter the same direction. 3 shot outside and 2 came in, so let the adventure begin.

Leaving the door open, I ocked up the dogs and got a broom to try to guide the birds out. After a short while, I got one to sit on the broom and I carried out to the front door. It then flew away. The other one too a bit longer as it trapped itself under our china cabinet. By this time my wife comes out of the bedroom, sees the door wide open and calls out to me. I explained what had happened and the current status.

Well this little one was still alive and was not moving anytime soon so I took the dogs just outside the front door (also leaving the patio door open) and let them do heir business while watching for the bird to fly out (Fail). So, I locked the dogs back up and continued to try to free the bird from under the cabinet. I spooked it enough that it came out and then eventually went out the wrong door (patio). I say wrong because it's four siblings (I guess) were sill just outside the front foor.

The bird then just sat outside the patio door for a while. See pictures below.

Picture on the right shows a close up of the bird.

Picture on the left shows how small it was (That's my Wavemaster puching bag behind it).

I walked out to relocate the bird to the front door, but it got spooked again and managed to fly into the bushes behind the fence (Top Picture). It later just flew away to a near by tree. I pretty much deemed it safe.

What a way to start a day.

I Passed

So, I did it.  I am now certified as a Deployment Functionality Technician.  Pretty cool!  I am more confident in my job skills as a DFT and is ready to dive in the role on the team.  I feel things will go very well in this position, but I am not interested in ther overnights even though I have to do them.

There are two other DFTs who need to be certified and I'm sure they will do great and pass with flying colors.  Now time to head home and get back to work.

Booooooooooooooo!

DFT Training - Day 1 and 2

So I am in the Twin Cities, Minnesota going through my part 2 of training for Deployment Functionality Technician. The trip up here was pretty rough. 2 delays, but no cancellations. Once finally in the air half the flight was smooth and the rest was the choppiest i have ever experienced. Finally arrived at 10pm (started at airport at 3:30pm).

My driver arrived shortly before my bags arrived, which was awesome and we were on out way to the hotel. Dropped out stuff of at the hotel and went out for a late dinner.

After that we stopped at a gas station where things got interesting. Some guy in the car with his girl decided to try to start stuff with one of the guys in our car. They followed us to the hotel and circle the place before finally leaving. What a trip.

Two Brothers, Courtney and the Black Swan

So after a long time we went to check out Mark's pick for his birthday movie, Your Highness. Oh my goodness, this was a hilarious film. Can I just say I love Natalie Portman. For someone who just won an oscar, pull something like this off is impressive. The main stars of this film are Danny McBride and James Franco where if anyone remembers also starred in Pinapple Express.

This movie was a serious trip. If you guys know the work of Danny McBride you would know what I mean. There were some very nice surprises in this film, including Damien Lewis (Life - TV Series & Dreamcatcher). It has been a while since I saw him in the show Life before NBC decided to cancel a potential great series. Charles Dance was the other surprise. If you don't remember this guy, he played Sardo Numspa, the demon in The Golden Child with Eddie Murphy. He was also in Alien 3 and Last Action Hero.

This film is one I definately recommend this movie in the theaters, forever how long it survives. I say this because it is being rushed out because of the upcoming summer "hits".

Great Movie!

Early Spring Cleaning

It's about that time for me to determine what shows I want to hold on to in my DVR and which ones have got to go. There will be a few on the bubble, but I don't forsee a lot there.

With schooling demanding more of my wime and of course housework requiring more attention, I need to see which shows I can use to sacrifice. I just have too much and won't be able to watch it all. So here it goes:

Dropped Shows:
30 Rock, Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, How I Met Your Mother, Kekkaishi, Minute To Win It, Portlandia, Rizzoli & Isles, Running Wilde, Stargate Universe, and The Cape

Bubble Shows:
Bob's Burgers, Chuck, Community, Human Target, Law & Order: UK, No Ordinary Family, Parks And Recreation, Sanctuary, Tosh.0 and Traffic Light

Kepper shows:
American Dad, AFV, Archer, Being Human, Bleach, Burn Notice, Castle, Comedy Central Presents, Family Guy, Fringe, Hawaii 5-0, Jeopardy, Law & Order: LA, Law & Order: SVU, Modern Family, Naruto: Shippuden, NCIS, NCIS: LA, Ninja Warrior, NOVA, ONN, Onion SportsDome, Robot Chicken, SNL, South Park, Star Wars: Clone Wars, The Cleveland Show, The Colbert Report, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Transformers Prime, White Collar, Wipeout and Young Justice.

I know I still have a lot of shows, and I will eliminate more, but that all for now.

Until next time.

On A Boat-Day 5: Nassau Hex

We have arrived in Nassau, Bahamas and was joined by 2 other cruise ships: The Sky fron Norwegan Cruise Lines and The Monarch from Royal Caribbean. Not a whole lot was planned for the day so we will make it a beach day. First stop was Hard Rock (of course) and picked up my shot glass.

Aftewards we took a 20 minute trek to find a beach to chill at. The water was cold upon entry, but was nice once you're completely in. The weather was great and the sun was blasting. Hours later we did a little shopping and headed back to the ship.

After a short nap, we headed to dinner then a movie on the main deck. The film was Jonah Hex, starring Josh Brolin and Megan Fox. Some of you may not have heard of it because when it released in July '10 it only stayed in theaters for just under a month. In my opinion it was pretty good for a comic book movie (DC Comics). I do recommend checking it out whenever.

Well off to bed. Tomorrow we dock at Freeport, Bahamas.

On A Boat-Day 4: Ruthless Play

Day 2 of the cruise. Just about the same activity as yesterday except things turned for the good. Starting with Jen doing much better. Still fatigued, but better.

I participated in Day 2 of the Super Duper Trivia, where I was still team captain. I don't how it happend, but we killed on this game. We answered question after question so well. We even picked up points when they missed questions. The physical challenge was to blow a long balloon and tie it shut. I was tricked in doing this challenged because the host asked for strong players. She meant players with strong lungs. I could not blow my balloon at all so my opponent won, but he didn't blow it up completely so instead of 50 pts, she only awarded 30. My friend called me a ruthless player because I was strategic with the card play: Double points 3x, made the other team miss a turn and after they got their last question right and tripling their points, I played a steal points card. I called it being strategic, but she says I was ruthless.

Later that day I returned to Name That Tune and Bean Bag Competition. I finished in 3rd in name that tune (41 out of 60 points). Then there was Bean Bag competition. My usual partner did not show so I teamed up with one of the folks from my trivia team. We finished 2nd.

The rest of the day was pretty much chill. Taking care of my baby and watched 300 & Dragonball + in spanish (that's right in spanish) until I went to sleep.

Next day, Port to call at Nassau, Bahamas.

On A Boat-Day 3: Quarter Drop

First full day on the ship at sea. No ports so it's a fun day at sea. Jen chilled for most of the day and i was in and out of the cabin checking on her, doing events and eating.

One of the events I was in was called Super Duper Trivia. This is a multiple day event and the first day started off strong. Along with the questions you answer, there are physical challenges. Today's challenge was to take a quarter, put it between your butt cheeks, walk across the floor and drop it in a small cup. Oh my lord that is one big challenge (see video). I also participated in a name that tune and bean bag competition.

It was elegant night for dinner, which as you know means that we dress up. After that we checked out 2 comedians, Carl Fauleneberry and Dean Gaines. Carl, we saw on our first cruise as well. He's very hilarious then and now. He reused some of the same material, but was still very funny. Dean was new to us. He is a regular in Las Vegas. He was pretty funny, but was a bit over the top. He has a huge fascination with male genitalia, makes me wonder.

It was a pretty eventful day and we have another fun day at sea before arriving at Nassau, Bahamas.

On A Boat-Day 2: Embarkmentation

So we headed off to Galveston to board the Carnival Conquest for our Eastern Carribean Cruise. Thelines for security and check in went great. Through and through in 30 minutes.

We didn't do much, but we checked out the Welcome aboard show in the main theatre. It was a very good show Cheezy as usual, but very good. One of the new features ofthe ship is that they now have a stand-up comedy series called Punchliner. They are bringing more and more stand-up acts which I love.

It was a good first night and we are looking forward to more.

......And So It Begins

With the advise of my academic advisor at TCC I took just one class in the Spring '11 Semester.  It is Texas State and Local Government.  This is one of 2 classes required to be taken at a Texas college and university.  The other is History of Texas.  I'm pretty excited and nervous.  My wife believe I will do well.  I'll just see how I do.

Like I said before..........wish me luck.
