Pandora's Box

Avatar

4 Stars

So I went to see why everyone was on Cameron's jock. This film is pretty well done. The new technology was very impressive and the story line does get you deep.

Well done James. Not sure if you'll get Titanic numbers, but you will definitely make some sweet cash off of this one.

Powerful in a Dark Way

Seven Pounds - 4 Stars

Starring Will Smith and Rosario Dawson.

Every time we thought about this film we wonder how it would be. It's one of those films where you must stay engaged throughout.

You don't figure it all out until it's almost over. Very powerful film. Everyone did a great job in it.

Might be an owner. Check it out!

Morgans In Protection

Did You Hear About The Morgans?

3 Stars

Starring Hugh Grant and Sarah Jessica Parker. This film was very entertaining and Grant was hilarious as usual.

It was great to see Sam Elliott again. I love all of his work and Wilford Brimley did very well.

Not much of an owner, but a nice movie to see. Especially if you want to see the smart assness of Grant.

Kwanzaa - Day 1

December 26th

Umoja (oo-MO-jah)

• Unity stresses the importance of togetherness for the family and the community, which is reflected in the African saying, "I am We," or "I am because We are."

Happy Kwanzaa

wil@byov.com

Kwanzaa Dec 26th - Jan 1st

Just want to wish everyone a Happy Kwanzaa. Even those not of African decent.

Case you were wondering here is the definition.

Kwanzaa is a unique African American celebration with focus on the traditional African values of family, community responsibility, commerce, and self-improvement. Kwanzaa is neither political nor religious and despite some misconceptions, is not a substitute for Christmas. It is simply a time of reaffirming African-American people, their ancestors and culture. Kwanzaa, which means "first fruits of the harvest" in the African language Kiswahili, has gained tremendous acceptance. Since its founding in 1966 by Dr. Maulana Karenga, Kwanzaa has come to be observed by more than 18 million people worldwide, as reported by the New York Times. When establishing Kwanzaa in 1966, Dr. Karenga included an additional "a" to the end of the spelling to reflect the difference between the African American celebration (kwanzaa) and the Motherland spelling (kwanza). Kwanzaa is based on the Nguzo Saba (seven guiding principles), one for each day of the observance, and is celebrated from December 26th to January 1st.

Have a happy one.

Football Rant

Keep in mind that I am a huge fan of football. With that said:

So I had an little conversation on Facebook yesterday about Plaxio Burress.

Folks are saying that his sentence of 2 years for carrying a loaded weapon in to a NYC club was a bit excessive. "He didn't harm anyone else, but himself." YEAH! Because the dumbass was wearing sweats.

I'm not sure why some of you defend some of the things these guys do. This doesn't stay with athletes, but with other celebrities as well. Now I understand people make mistakes, but there is a difference between that and just being stupid.

I'm going to stop here because normally I don't like to pass judgment, but once in a while it will come out.

They took it easy on Burress. 2 years is nothing for carrying a loaded weapon. He should have gotten more for the way he carried it.

He will be fine and he will return to the NFL just like everyone else when "times served".

BTW, what's up Vick? *SIGH*

Business Is A Boomin'

Reservoir Dogs
Pulp Fiction
Jackie Brown
Kill Bill
Death Proof
and now

Inglorious Bastards!

Just saw the 6th film by Quinten Tarantino and it was outstanding. The movie starred Brad Pitt and he definitely made the movie. The accent was hilarious and the line were great.

There were a couple of cameos including Mike Myers as a High British Military Official. Not as funny as usual, but was great to see him in it.

I would rate this film as his tied for second best with Kill Bill. Number 1 is of course Pulp Fiction.

Highly recommended to see. Oh and is you do see it, check out who is the narrator.

Until then........

John Hughes Marathon

So about 3 or so weeks late we had a dvd movie marathon in honor and memory of John Hughes.

We started out with Sixteen Candles starring Molly Ringwald, Anthony Michael Hall and John Cuscak. Haven't seen this film in a long time and I think it was my first time seeing the unedited version. It was great.

The 2nd film was The Breakfast Club with Emilio Estevez, Anthony Michael Hall, Molly Ringwald, Ally Sheedy and Judd Nelson. It has been a long time since I seen this film. It was good, but I feel they really over did it with the drama.

The 3rd and final film was Weird Science starring Anthony Michael Hall, Ilan Mitchell-Smith, Kelly LeBrock, Robert Downey and Bill Paxton. Still my favorite Hughes film after Ferris Beuller's Day Off. Favorite scene is when they are in the bar and Gary is talking after he is blitzed. Greatness.

It was fun and I'm glad that some of you guys made it. Not sure what our next marathon is, but I'll look forward to it.

Little Boxes

So Jen and I have been checking out the hit show, Weeds from Showtime on DVD. We finally finished season 4 and we loved the series up to this point.

Seasons 1-3 were great, especially with the theme song, Little Boxes. Just so quirky. Season 4 kind of threw us, but still kept up involved in the show.

Several characters disappeared in season 4 and we missed them, but understood why along with the original song being removed. We can't wait for Season 5 to release on DVD. Should be great.

Next series to watch is, In Treatment from HBO.

The Unknown

So, things haven't been going well for me, my wife and members of our family.

We have determined that some major changes will need to happen. In my world, I have been stuck on a plateau for 5 years. That is way too long and it is overdue for a change. Not sure what will happen, but I need to make it happen.

Confusing huh?

Sunshine Cleaning

3.5 out of 5

A very cute film starring Amy Adams, Emily Blunt, Steve Zahn and Alan Arkin. A struggling single mother working with her kid sister and father as a huge opportunity comes to her and the shortly blows up in her face.

Amy puts on her bubbly, sweet face as normal, but with some sign of pain here and there. She comes to several realizations when things come head first at her.

Arkin was as hilarious on this film as he was in "Little Miss Sunshine". He clearly works great with kids.

Check this film out. I had never heard of it, but loved it. A nice break from the mainstream.

So we finally did it. We got new bicycles. Cost a pretty penny (no I won't tell you how much). We got the Trek Navigator 2.0. My bike is pretty big and felt pretty comfortable.

We will be biking soon and hope to get some great exercise along with our normal routine. Wish us luck.

Night At The Museum

Our movie group decided to checkout the sequel of Night at the Museum starring Ben Stiller. It was an okay film with the same corny and goofiness as the first film.
I will say that Hank Azaria as Kamunra (spelling) was great. The lisp was hilarious and there is this one scene with Stiller that they go back and forth was too much.

Not sure if I would recommend you seeing this film, but it was good. So check it out if you like.

Roland Garros '09

So it continues. Time for the French Open at Roland Garros in Paris France. This is as huge for me as Baseball, Basketball or Hockey is for others. The only other sport that tops this for me is Football.

I really get into this sport. I know it may be to some (or even most), but oh well. Expecting some great matches this year.

Upcoming Grand Slams:
Wimbledon - End of June
US Open - End of August

Anniversary Weekend

So it is almost that time for our 9th year anniversary and for the second year in a row we won't be able to celebrate it together. Fortunately, we were granted a long weekend and with my mother away at a friends we are able to make a weekend of it.

We don't know what all we will do, but there will be a lot of relaxation and togetherness (I know, cheesiness). This will be a great weekend. We will definitely need it.

Don't Mess Wit Money

On my gosh, so things take a crazy turn.......AGAIN.

I was over paid on my paycheck. Just like last year. Now my next two checks will have to be deducted in order to make up for the mix up.

I really hate this time, but I guess I have to deal with it and be glad it doesn't happen every time.

Just once a year. :)

GPS....Wha?

So I am driving to work the past couple of days and usually I would use my GPS for time purposes.

Well while driving to my destination it would inform me if any traffic trouble, but this time it tells me of a baseball game going on that same day near the area I just past through.

Didn't know this feature existed. Don't know if I signed up for it. Bizarre huh?

Rentals

So Jen and I don't subscribe to HBO or Showtime, but we love the shows made on them. It started with Sex and The City, which I hesitated on seeing, but really liked it.

We them moved on to see shows like Six Feet Under, The L Word and Big Love. We are currently on The Sopranos, which is a great series and shortly after we will start or continue Dexter.

Renting shows are nice. Definitely cheaper than having a premium channel.

The Visit

So it has been a while since I've blogged, and I am sorry. Anyways, my mother is planning to visit here for a while (2 months). The reasoning is very understandable. She is having n extremely hard time getting a job up there. Economy hit the Midwest very hard. So since Texas didn't receive as much of a blow she figured that she'd try down here.

I am good with this. I want to help her as my as I physically, mentally and emotionally can. My concerns are that the visit doesn't go bad and doesn't go longer that the allotted time. There is a lot at stake if it does.

I don't know. I'm trying to destress about this. It's not helping with everything else at all. I could be over reacting.

Pray for us ya'll.

A recent conversation with my sister in law on Facebook made miss important pets of mine. She wants to get a guinea pig and was asking me for advise.

The next morning I find myself feeling sad because I miss my geez. I would really love to get another, but things prevent that from happening.

Don't get me wrong. I love Lucas, Bella and Tyson (Cat and 2 Dogs), my first pet love is always for the guinea pig.

Okay, that's enough.

Big Hit

So my wife is leaving work, looking forward to a nice weekend with her man. She stopped after pulling out of her parking spot and boom! A Suburban backs into her.

Now, Jen is fine, but her baby (the Civic) is in pain. Damn some people and your SUVs. Watch what you are doing. They exchange info and she makes it home as we rant some more about the situation.

We went out for the sweetness of Papa Murphy's and as we were heading back a truck decided that they were going to dart out of a parking lot, but they stopped just as I was approaching. I said "Really?", and Jenny, raising her hand in a pimp like style also says, "Really?". I got a chuckle off of that, but was also pissed that another possible accident was going to happen with a large passenger. Damn you folks.

We really must improve as drivers. Stop being so impatient.

So whether or not you knew, I had three blogs although I didn't post much. One was a TV show blog called Sifil & Ollie (My two TiVo units at home), the other blog was Movie Luva Review (self-explainatory), and then this one, Sure As Butta (my main blog).

I decided to merge all three together especially since I, again, don't blog that much although I would like to post more. So there ya go. Probably not that important to most of you, but to the few who did read my blogs, again, there ya go.

Feel free to comment as much as you like and I will try to post as much as I can.

Ringmaster

So Irving Mall (here in DFW, TX) now has a circus there. That blew my mind because I have never seen a circus tent in a mall parking lot usually it's a carnival. What made it even messed up is that they moved into the parking lot that was being used by Circuit City. This is less than two weeks after they shut down. Man, Irving Mall, couldn't you wait a while longer?

WOW!

For all of those who will check out this event enjoy. I don't know how long they are in town.

Autumn Hurts: Back To Work

Well, it is time for me to return to work and it will be good to get out for a while. We are doing a TV transition in the stores, but I will be restricted to sit down duty. Let's hope my knee, let alone my leg, does well.

I have a follow up appointment this Tuesday. I hope to chuck one of the crutches after that.

More to come soon.....

L.O.S.E.

So I have stumbled on a new show on Cartoon Network call League Of Super Evil (L.O.S.E). Very different from your standard superhero/supervillan show. Actually it focus on the day to day life of a group of evil doers led by Voltar, a short creature in a red suite who is fixed on being such an evil dude. The other members include Doktor Frogg, a mad scientist who is also commanded by Voltar to fix an issue. Red Menace is the muscle of the group where the only thing red on him is his hair. Finally there is Doomageddon, a vicious hell hound who actually makes thing more difficult for the league.

I'd say this show is worth a watch for a while. Other than the league being bent on being recognized as being the most evil beings on Earth, it is also funny that they live in suburbia, with their house looking much different than the others.

The shows airs on Mondays at 7e/6c on Cartoon Network with repeats on Fridays and Saturdays. Check it out.

Watchmen

So we went to see Watchmen in IMAX this past Sunday. The last time I want to see an IMAX film was in June '08, The Dark Knight. Well I have to say that Watchmen was a very good film, but definately was not worth the hype people made it out to be. This was a very complex film that seem to deal more about the heroes unstable emotions then their abilities or advnetures.

The big deal keep hearing about was Dr. Manhatten and how he loves to go in the buff a lot. It is true, but it wasn't that big of a deal. Lots of graphic fighting and an intense love scene. I do recommend this film to all who are interested. Probably don't need to see it in IMAX though.

I give it 3 out of 5.

Watchmen

So we went to see Watchmen in IMAX this past Sunday. The last time I want to see an IMAX film was in June '08, The Dark Knight. Autumn Hurts: Aftermath Week 1

Well, the surgery is over and according to the folks it went very well. It took me a little while to come completely out of anesthesia, I was doing pretty good. My recovery is supposed to be just 6-8 weeks. Hope recovery goes quicker. The post-op appointment was the next day and my sister-in-law was very nice to take me. Afterwards, we needed to get some gas and after pumping the car decides not to start. How embarrassing given it was suggested to take my car because of my long legs. After getting a slight charge from a truck, the car started.

Now I am laid up for a week until my knee get stronger then I return to sit down duty at work. Catching up on a lot of shows on my DVR and it can get boring, but very restful. Pray for a quick recovery. I shall keep you posted.

Autumn Hurts: Pre-Op

So it has been decided to have another surgery on my left knee. Apparently there was a hole left in my cartilage from the removal of the floating one. My bones are hitting and now I have osteoarthritis in my knee. I also have it in my left ankle. It's not bad now, but noticable.

I really home this will solve the walking issue with my knee. In the meantime, I have a brace on my knee, which helps me walk much better.

Wish me lots of it.

Sacrifices

So my time and TiVo space are low and so I need to drop some shows. I watch too much anyways. So the following shows regretfully will have to be sacrificed:
Psych, USA
Smallville, CW
Knight Rider, NBC
Life On Mars, ABC
MadTV, FOX
Terminator (I know), FOX

A couple other shows that are on the bubble are:
Castle (I know it hasn't started yet), ABC
Dollhouse, FOX
Howie Do It, NBC
America's Best Dance Crew, MTV
Chuck, NBC

That still leave's me with a lot of shows, but it should help for now.

Let me know what you think.

Benediction

Lord we ask you to help us to work for that day when black will not be asked not to give back, when brown can stick around, when yellow will be mellow, when the red man can get ahead man and white can get it right.

Call It Watcha Like

So it's the new year, which I hope all enjoyed and I have decided to jump back on the wagon. Time to get back to my lifestyle change goals. You can all it a resolution if ya like, but I made this goal/oath on July 2007 and I plan to achieve it. My wife, Jen, and our friend Cheree are also returning to it.

I went to the gym today and I was expecting a lot of people there to start weight loss resolutions, but it was just filled like normal for a Saturday (or as far as I last remembered it). I felt great to be back and I wondered, "why did I stop doing this?" There really was no reason. I was doing pretty well and all of a sudden I stopped going. My diet started to revert back to before I started the weight loss as well. Very upsetting. Well count this as a big U-Turn. I am going to work hard to stay on the path.

So there you go. Wish me, Jen, Cheree and everyone else who is working on their weight loss huge luck.

Thanks all.
